I fabricate and install copper standing seam roofs. Some people like the copper to turn. For that , we don't apply anything. other people like the copper to stay copper looking. for the copper look , apply a product called "Copper-Doc". It comes in a kit useing a 3 step proccess. Step #1 is a cleaner Note: You can skip step one if the copper is new and already clean/shinny. Step #2 is a color locker Step #3 is a clear coat of some kind. The kit sells for around $150.00.

Polish it with something like Brasso and then coat with clear laquer. Musical instruments, which are brass alloy are made to shine that way.

Most home centers have spray cans of stuff designed to protect polished brass. Same stuff should keep copper from oxidizing.

I can remember years ago having indoor plumbing was a mere luxury.

Sometimes, especially in older log homes, the copper pipe had to be exposed, and people were quite proud of it.

Most of the older plumbers would steel wool the copper pipe and fittings that were exposed and coat them with a clear shellac.

I tend to use copper for making hand rails on some restoration jobs. After the copper is installed, I coat the tubing with clear polyurethene. (exterior grade).. It seems to hold up quite well.
