Pickup flatbed plans

Anyone have any links to find plans for a flatbed instead of the box on a 76 K20?

Did a bit of searching on google, but didn't really come up with anything decent.

Don't have the time to do it, "design as you go".

some years back, i helped build a flat-bed onto a Jap pickup./ we used u-channel for the cross braces, 3 if i remember right, high enough to let the boards clear the frame kick-up. At the front, we used steel tubing to make the front header board framework, then bolted the 1x6's across onto them. We used 1" planks for the floor, but you could use them a bit thicker if desired. Then we welded side uprights onto the cross braces, and bolted planks to them. A tail board was hinged onto the floor, but you might not want that. That bed lasted 10 years for the owner. He hauled mainly hay for his "zoo", which is what we called it, because he had so many odd animals in it! by: Rustyj

Hi Greywolf. Last year I built a 14-foot flatbed dump for my 2004 F-550. I just uploaded a couple picture of it in the Galleries section under Implement photos, if you are interested. They�re titled F-550, and 14-foot flatbed. I�m sure I can find my drawing somewhere on this computer and e-mail them to you in DXF format if you would like!

I'm just trying to get an idea of how much steel I need foot wise and what's the best way for a medium strength bed. Lot of times I move 30-40 bales of hay and grab a pallet of seed etc. Possibly reinforcing the area a goose neck ball MAY be put in. Am going to add a ball hitch to the Peterbilt for that, no sense on pulling a PU to death when the power and braking ability of the Pete sits doing nothing. Milage would compare to the 400 small block and the 400 Cat. Nothing much more than a ton really.

Typical 70's Chev box..it's close to being on the level of the Pope with it's holiness....LOL.

Can get 11 ga 2X2 tubing for around $2/ft. 4" C is double that. Can get spendy fast.

Hi Greywolf. Well I have about $4,000.00 into this one. $700.00 in paint alone. I used automotive paint. About $1850.00 for the 10-ton hoist. The hardest part of the whole project was the hitch. I had to call on one of my buddies here on this board to help design it. I will not mention his name, because he embarrasses really easy! Many here including myself consider him a welding fabricating GOD! Thanks again for all your help, buddy LOL. I uploaded another picture of the truck with a 4-ton load of hay on it. If I can help, just yell!

Go to www.dieselstop.com, click on Archives, click on Feature Articles, click on DIY Flatbed #2. The author had also written an earlier DIY Flatbed article that I don't think is any longer available.
