OT: DeLaval Vacuum pump

I just hooked up a DeLaval No. 75 vacuum pump for my sap pipeline, and have a few questions about it. For the last four years I was using a Surge pump, and this is just enough different to make me a little confused. Can anybody answer these questions?
1. How do you tell if it is oiling properly? The Surge has little sight glasses where you can see the oil dripping into the bearings, the only thing I can see on this one is it isn�t smoking or seizing up, so it must be getting oil.
2. Does the oil reservoir in the base also act as an oil reclaimer, and if not, can I add one in the exhaust pipe?
3. No temperature gauge, how hot is too hot? I know it shouldn�t smoke.
4. How much oil does the reservoir hold, and how low can it get before you need to add some?
5. Does anyone have an operator�s manual?

You should be able to set the palm of your hand on the top, without getting burnt. The bearings should be set up with a dripper. 3-5 drips per minute is ideal. Oil reclaim can be set up in the exhaust, and is an excellant idea for controlling a nasty mess.

Harold, it has been 9 years , but I had plastic lines on my 75. I seem to remember that it used a jar full about every 3 days running 5 to 6 hrs a day.

I am not sure what models we had but we always had a site glass or used clear plastic hose for the oil lines so you could see if it was getting oil or not. The oil res. on ours also acted as an oil reclaimer/ water sep., had a drain valve on the bottom. They always seemed hot when running. Also had a site glass on the oil res. to tell how much it held. Hope this helps..Where are you located at?.. Maybe you can get a hold of a dairy service/supplier to help out ....Jim
