J Puleo -- For 30-some years Sears bought almost all of their Craftsman-branded screwdrivers from Western Forge, a Colorado-based subsidiary of Emerson Electric. Then, a few years ago Sears started buying a substantial portion of the Craftsman-brand screwdrivers from Pratt-Reed. Most Craftsman tools are source-coded, and the source codes for the main screwdriver vendors are self-evident: Western Forge uses WF, and Pratt-Reed uses PR. For what it's worth, Pratt-Reed, which has also used the name "Cornwall and Patterson", has made many products, including piano "actions", gliders (the engineless-airplane type of glider), and screwdrivers over their 200+ corporate lifetime. Screwdrivers have been their main product for a number of years, and they have only recently started selling screwdrivers under their own name, having specialized in making and branding screwdrivers for other tool companies for many years. Pratt-Reed claims that they have manufactured screwdrivers for every major US toolmaker. John
