Howdy, all.

I've been tinkering with hooking up a Cub-151 disc plow to my Super A. It fits up and mounts just fine, but the rod that links the front steering arm to the steering arm on the plow's land wheel is too short, so I need to make one. What material would y'all recommend? I've been thinking about rebar, but thought it might bend too easily. I've also considered using some old water pipe, but I figured that just wouldn't hold up. I'm just trying to get the old girl plowing again to put in a garden and some deer plots. I'll appreciate any advice y'all can offer.

Thanks in advance,
Darren

Rebar is bad for that, its made to be bent. What Gene Davis said will last forever.leave the rebar for the concrete.

Why not cut the original rod in two pieces, then slip a length of pipe over it to make it the correct length? This way you won't have to worry about making new ends on a new rod and it will already be the correct sized ends also. Just drill a couple of holes in the pipe sides then slip the end up in the pipe and you can weld it at the end and also a plug weld in the pipe/bar area also for strength. Gene Davis

I honestly don't know what the two units are you're working with but you would have to have a very large and heavy size of rebar if it needs to push as well as pull. The stuff will buckle real easy until you get a pretty heft sized chunk of it. I would think water pipe would be ok or maybe round steel tube sized accordingly.

Gene, I may do what you suggested yet, but if I can find a good solution without cutting the original steering linkage I'd be a lot happier. I'd like to have a Cub one day... Not that I need one, I just like 'em.

Loren,
Thanks for confirming that. I thought rebar would be too easily bent. I have a length of water pipe out back-- I'll make a go at that and if it breaks I'm not out much.

Thanks, y'all.
