I was told by a friend of mine awhile back that I can retap the threads in my exaust manifold where the pipe comes out of the manifold and clamps to the muffler. I have a 1952 Super M and the threads are corroded pretty good and they simply need to be rethreaded. Problem is: where on earth can I find a 2.25 inch pipe thread tap? Any help would be appreciated.

I rented one from a rental center for $5 for an Oliver manifold. Gave the threads a heavy coat of anti seize no more rust or corrosion.

I found mine at the Northern tools store, set of three in a wooden box. Seems like somewhere around $40 for the set, might be higher now. I have used the 2 inch size extensively. It works good.

Yep I saw those on northern for under 50 bucks. Otherwise those can be expensive, 200 bucks anyway for just the size you are needing.

Hi Freud,

You can use a piece of threaded 2" pipe with deep slots cut into the threads with a 3corner file, about every 1/2" or so.

Be sure and try your home made tap in a regular 2" pipe fitting to make sure it starts and cuts correct. You do have to clean it more often than a regular tap.

If the threads are too bad it might require a tap but I've used this method alot on other projects with good results.
