Hello, got a quick question

I'm planning to fabricate a 3pt transport box out of steel box section. I've seen 130amp MIG at a good price. Would this kind of unit be suitable?. Thanks

Hi Gtuk,

A typical 130a Mig machine can weld 1/8" material in a single pass. Ya I know the spec's say more but the real world says 1/8" with a extension cord.

For a good all around Mig welder for a home shop use, then consider a 200amp machine. You'll be alot happier.

Gtuk,What you are describing is the perfect job for a MIG welder.TIG is my fave but would take way too long to do a toolbox with long seams.Just make sure of rating vs metal thickness.I think your ok with that amperage but dont know specifics.{ I cant imagine 130 amp machine not welding a toolbox]However youll get more info if you state what brand,duty cycle etc.If I make a box[3/32" thick] like that I pay someone to shear it for me for real square corners on my sheetmetal,then arc weld it.Good luck.
