I want to build a roller to tow behind my 50 8n, need some ideas on how big to build it. I'm thinking 5 or 6 feet wide by 2 or 3 feet in dia. any ideas ? I have 4 acres that I mow and will be rolling.

I have seen rollers fabricated from the tank out of a water heater. Fill it with sand for weight; weld a short section of pipe to either end to serve as an axle; then build a 2 X 6 frame with holes drilled to accommodate the pipe/axles. It's not too fancy, but it does the job and it costs next to nothing.

I did just that, welded one together out of an old 40 gal. hot water heater tank, My kids tow it around the yard with an old garden tractor. I want to build a "BIG" one for my n to tow over the whole 4 acers . I'm thinking rolling will cut down on the wear and tear of my 6' finishing mower and should cut down on mowing time.

Living in the oil patch I look to the wells and stuff for solutions to material problems. So here goes nothing (again) well casing material (pipe) is all over the place out here and if a body could get a couple of 4 - 6 foot lengths he could weld plates on the ends after centering a hitch pin on the end and rig up a V shaped frame to pull it around. You could fill it with sand or water if you put in a bung. MIght even be able to gang them up.

I had a fuel oil tank that I wanted to get rid of, so I took my air chisel and cut the flat parts out of it and welded it back togeather.
I would think that if you wanted anything bigger it would be better to gang several togeather.
