Hi Steve, Depends on if you can redirect the same flow, cfm, into another or new trunk line (doubtful). Reducing the air flow, cfm, on the heat exchanger causes several problems: Low air flow will cause the heat exchanger to become too hot thus tripping the high limit switch, a safety switch, and the unit will have to be shut down then restarted. This causes stess on the exchanger and will crack it after a short time. A cracked heat exchanger produces CO into the room. CO is a deadly slient killer as it's both colorless and odorless to a human. Never orperate any fuel burning appliance on there safety devices. Low air flow will also raise the fan motor amps thus causing the motor to over heat and cycle on the thermo overload, a safety switch. At the same time you restrick air flow you increase the fans static pressure. Too much static pressure beyond design limits will also over heat the motor eventualy burning up the fan motor. A typical stack damper for a woodstove will shut off about 80% to 90% of the air flow at best. Using a register grill with air volume control (blades) will shut off about 95% of air flow. So if your duct work was slightly underdesign to begin with (this is very common), shutting off one supply air duct can have disasterious results on the whole system. T_Bone
