Have an old DeVilbiss Air Compressor, Model Number 130, in really good condition. I would like to use it. I have 220 in the garage.

Need to know what size eletric motor and pulley to use.

On data plate: 750 Max. rpm at 50 psi. 700 Max. rpm at 80 psi. 600 Max. rpm at 150 psi.
Would like to use around 120 psi. in the shop.
It is a single cylinder - 4 3/4" Stroke and 3" Bore.

The fan pulley on the compressor is 14" around (across)and is 3" wide for a flat belt. I could have the pulley machined for 2 or 3 modern "V" belts.

I would appreciate any information!

Sincerely, Dan

Just my 2 cents, but most single stage pumps are rated for around 100 lbs. If you push them higher it really pounds them to death! jeffcat

That's an oldie. A 2hp motor is what you need (based on the displacment in cubic inches, divided by 10). Should pull it up to speed and pressure no problem.

If you figure 14" for the pulley times 650 rpm (guesstimate for the working speed at the pressure given), you get 9100. Divide that by 1750 rpm for a decent motor, you get about 5 1/4" for the motor pulley. Almost half that diameter for a 3450 rpm motor. If you don't pull maximum motor amps at 120 psi, you can either put a bigger pulley on it for some extra rpm, or run the cut-out pressure a bit higher.
