OT-update on hip replacement{my new tool}

i just wanted to give a update to all that responded to my last months post. and to you'all that did not read it ,here is my story. i am 33yrs old and had a right hip replaced feb 14/2005 . my surgery went good, and i feel great. the first week or 2 was kinda tough, but as the days past i have been having some major improvements. i have cut my vicadin pills to 1 or 2 a week, and take a motrin once a day. and been goig to therapy 3 times a week...doc says that i am doing great and march 9th he took me off my walker and put me on a cane. figures since my surgery we have had 3 good michigan snow falls and all i can do is stare out the window and watch my buddy on my tractor plowing my 900ft driveway. i did make it out to the garage today just so i could poke around and kick a few tires on the tractors. sure did feel good to get out there. thanks for all your replys and support on my surgey....perry

was jane fonda in there with you, heard she had hip done . ... kidding... hope your new joint works out well for you. had a knee done 10 years ago after a split rim knocked me for a loop when tightening some lugg nutts. best regards lucas

Glad things are going well fro you. I had a hip replacement nearly 2 years ago. I had never had any pin in my hip, but had in other parts of my leg, and it was severly deteriorated before being correctly diagnosed. I have not been able to go back to work due to complications caused by severe arithritis in my lower back. I can still do a little work, by being cautious, but I was only about 5 years from retirement anyway.

Glad to hear you"re doing OK - sorry I missed the lead up to the replacement. I"d have been glad to fill you in on what to expect. I had my first replacement done at 39. Wore those two out and had the first revision done 2 years ago at 51. Good luck!

Glad to hear you're doing so well. I had mine done Nov. 19. So I'm at about the 15 week level. I'm 48. I've started misplacing my cane for the last couple of weeks, so I guess that's a good sign. I was able to get up on a tractor last Sat. for the first time since last Sept. I took 2 Lortab every morning for the first 12 weeks. Now I take 2 Aleeve every other morning. Looking forward to planting the garden and getting back to work and the farm in the next month. Jim.

glad you are doing great...my father had one replaced..he did good for about 6 years..then could not sit on tractors anymore....talked to a guy 2 years ago he was getting a replacement and they told him the early ones was good for about 5 years...new ones lifetime....hope yours is...may god bless

perry. I got mine for christmas in 1995 after I had turned 30. This july I will hit 50 and it has not stopped me from working on my old tractors and gas engines. I find myself stopping to think about how to move a heavy object and plan things out a little better. It was and is great to be pain free, now the only pain I have is my boss. Best of luck with anything you do.

That has got to be the toughest thing to do...sit in your window while someone else uses your tractor to plow your driveway...If someone else used my JD to plow mine.....it's unspeakable...you have my sympathy because that's all I have to offer.

i have had a bad hip all my life. i could do all the fun childhood stuff growing up such as vollyball, hacky sack, softball and ect.....{just not too extreme} it did'nt hit me untill around high school. i did not let it slow me down . at home i was a mad man running around doing all sorts of work on autos and my tractors... i worked at a auto mechanics shop for 11yrs, started as tire boy and worked my way up to heavy r&r jobs. then i worked at a tree service for 2yrs{no climbling}. untill i fell into my buddys commercial carpet installation company. {did everything but use carpet kicker} thats the job that everthing caught up to me.. i had what they called a flat head. the top of my hip was wore down severly. doctor dosent want me to return to my current job as a carpet installer. so now im stuck for what to do for a job/career. i cant handle any shop or office jobs. im a mover, cant slow me down. my freinds are always telling me to slow down have a seat. if im not cleaning the house, or in the garage,you can find me lost in my 5 acres working on something. maybe ill lean towards my passion for tractors or restoration of classic cars, but what ever i choose i wont be sitting behind a desk.. well sorry for the long answer to you question, but i have been in this house tooooo looooong and have alot of things on my mind.

Hi Perry,

Glad to here your doing well. I didn't respond to your earlier thread as my Daughter had a bad experience with her hip replacement and you had so many good positive responses I didn't want to discourage you.

Keep after the excersises and it won't be long before your outside in the doghouse, I mean shop, doing your thing :)
