How do the solar welding helmets that never need a battery work? What is a good brand that is affordable? I used a friends and really like it.
Thanks

Thanks for reply. Sounds like Jackson with regular battery is the preferred brand. I won't use it everyday but when I borrowed one to weld the blade on my tractor man was it nice. Thanks for the input.

I have one from that junk tool place that no one seems to like. I've used it two years with no problems, I keep it in the box it came in when not in use, and it always works like a champ when I need it. Best part was the cost, fifty bucks. My old hood is handy if I ever need it.

Make sure you get a helmet with a replacable batttery. I bought a solar cell powered Hobart with a "permanent" battery. When it died 18-months after I bought it, I had to open up the cartridge, remove the 3V Li battery and add a battery holder with two AA batteries.

My friend has a Chianeze made Northern Tool "solar" powered mask. For the most part, it works 100%, although last day we welded it was giving him problems, and I'm thinking it was because the battery had not charged enough.

I have a battery operated 150 dollar mask EQC mask from Jackson. It's great, works perfect, and I'll NEVER go back to an old fashioned mask.
