Dave, I've been very pleased with a Hitachi model
NV 45AB2. Works great single shooting or bumping.
No jams and fingertip depth adjustment. Got mine
at Home Depot and a rebate to boot.

Im using Asphalt shingles My only experience with stapled shingles was in replacing shingles I found the staples were rusted off.

Roofing (asphalt) shingles, or cedar shingles?

Either way, ya can't go wrong with a Stanley-Bostich. Coil nailer for roofing shingles, stick-type stapler for cedar shingles.

Just don't use the stapler on asphalt shingles. The staples will pull through the shingles in a strong wind.

I hear so many people say this yet staple guns have been used for several years, I my self have used them on several roofs and they have been through strong winds and yet never had a call back on them, it is all in setting the compressor pressure, don’t just shoot through the shingle and think it will stay, And it is the same thing with nail guns they to can be over shot and blow off.

Here in No. California code no long allows the use of staples for attaching roofing shingles. To many problems with them over the years. Here at least, full head roofing nails are required.

Personally I like using nails for shingles, but my last house had a 12 year old roof that was stapled - absolutely no issues. I think the biggest issue is the staples pulling back though the plywood.

The shingles pulling through the staples might be an issue if you roof doesn't seal down, but then you're going to have problems anyway if they're flapping in the wind.
