Paslode nailer has quit?

I have a paslode 5300 nail gun that has about decided to quit shooting nails. Its the nail gun with a rectangular housing around the piston. I was getting it to work with a good soaking of WD-40 there for a while. Building a deck this weekend and spent 2 hrs trying to get it shooting again with no luck. When I try to fire it acts like its got constipation, almost like the piston is stuck. I took the back off and could push the piston up and down freely. What should I do to it? Would a O-ring kit fix it?

also. maybe you have an obstruction in gun, or compressor...try it on different compressor just for the heck of it...

are you sure that there isn't too much oil running thru..or h20...????try running it on the dry side...try the gun when its warm and inside, and see if it makes a difference...

May not be an option for you..... .local contractor sends his back to the factory periodically to have them rebuilt. He usually has 3 or 4 at the job site and a couple of back-ups..... ..

Hi JL When tou say "back", do you mean the head (top of bun? In my old paslode, there is a valve that also has o-rings in the head. If this gets gummed up, the gun will drive one nail but the piston won't retract to allow another nail in the chamber. Pushing the piston up manually, then reconnecting the air just causes the piston to drive (too slowly) one nail. I believe that valve is messed up-the 0-rings are large diameter but small cross section, and they become hardened with long use causing your problem. Rarely does the trigger assembly fail. Is the internal parts coated with a gray sludge indicating moisture in your air? Are they dry from lack of lubrication? These tools require a squirt of pnuematic oil in the inlet before and after each days use to keep them operating properly! If not the o-rings may fail! If so fairly easy to change but make sure You completely cahnge all of them and clean gun completely while apart and the proper lube while it is apart! Spray brake cleaner is an excellent cleaner for these tools! Also make sure it is clean around the driver and that it hasn"t been warped or pinched as this will cause your gun to jam up too! No sludge and nice clean aluminum finish on the inside. I run an inline oiler and hit it with a shot of oil before each use. When it works, it works great, just getting it there is the tough part.

Are you using thr right nails? Haven't switched brands? Some times the generics don't work as well and paslode can be finicky about what nails You shoot! This gun uses paper collated nails?Didn't try to use wire or plastic collated did you? Or nails to big for this gun? Either that or like I said in previous post, something could be jammed in around the head or safety and it is sticking! About all I can think of. Good luck! Scott

I used to use WD-40 on my nailer and ended up having the same problem that you are having. I took it into our local tool room for repair, and they said that I should never use WD-40 on my nailer as it would soften and almost disolve my o-rings. They cleaned it and replace my o-rings, and told me to use only pneumatic oil, it has worked for years since with no problems. I was told that there was to much detergent in WD-40.

I believe you will find repair kits available in versions A, B, C.

Try the A kit and if it doesn't work go on to the B kit. Then to the C kit if needed.

Worked on em in the cabinet shop daily and that's how we did it.

To get cylinder out of body, remove head and smack the upside down hammer on the wooden work bench.

Lots of great ideas, Thanks! I did not know that about WD-40. Guess I should use air lube only. Ill try the o ring kit and clean it all real good. Thanks again to everybody.
