I have an 24' gooseneck trailer I use to haul tractors and equiment. I bought the trailer new in 99, so its getting about time to replace some of the boards on the deck. My question is, what kind of boards should I use? I was wanting to use oak but I got to thinking wouldn't that be alittle over kill?

I agree with 2 others CYPRESS treated with a lot of linseed oil will last a life time, but even oak that is well treated will last use lots of linseed oil on top and bottom.

Hey Diesel, you bought a new trailer in 99 and already needing a new floor, sounds like a poor quality floor to begin with.Soak that original floor with household bleach, let dry good and then add wood perserver, like thompsons. Next take measurements and go to local welding or machine shop and get some tread plate and put on top of wood floor. Use protective clothing . This is what I would do. BJ

When we first got the trailer I did right much hauling with it. I should have took better care of the deck when it was new. I have just a couple of boards that are getting bad and, I fiqured I"d start seeing what boards to put back. I dont think I want to weld a piece of D-tread on it. I"m not for sure if a few of yall are talking about the same thing or not but I helped a buddy of mine put an floor on one of his trailers one time, it was some sort of plastic bi product. It was light but let me tell ya the price wasent.

whatever you decide to use, be careful with "rumber" it usually requires closer floor joists/stringers than some trailers using wooden decks have..repair a lot of trailers--this is what I see

Good and strong, will take setting out in the weather as well as anything going(That is if you can find it) CYPRESS.Its what manufacturers used for flooring in those old individual hog farrowing houses and you know what old sows do on wood floors.LOl,bob

I forget what it's called but flat bed semi trailers use some kind of special wood. Large truck supply places carry it. You might give it a try. Got any local saw mills could just get some rough sawn oak,may be the best price.

It is called apatong ( i may not have spelled it wright) and yes it is tuff and stong and weather does not bother it and is a bear to cut and to redeck a 24 foot goose neck ya better get one off them home loans because it would probably cost ya 2500 bucks . When i was still driven the RGN trailer i was pullen had a 60000 lbs fork lift go thru the floor on one side and it cost just for the wood and we did the labor almost 500 buck for a space that was 30 foot long and 28 inch wide.

Yep, that's expensive stuff. I always stuck with white oak and creosote.

If you want the floor to last the rest of your life us composition boards like "Rumber" stronger than wood and will not rot.

Foundation grade treated yellow pine. It doesn't shrink like plain wet treated lumber because its been kiln dried after treatment.

Tractor vet is correct.APATONG is the floor of choice. It is not easy to find and it is expensive.I just finished flooring two rooms in my daughters house with apatong wood. You can easily mistake it for mahogany in appearance.I need to replace a deck an 18 ' trailer and will possibly try live oak wood.I have old live oak stumps in my yard from trees cut down over 20 years ago that are as good as new.
