I have a question about chainsaws....please help

Well, I searched the archives for good posts with opinions on Poulan Pro saws. I know where they are made, I know Husky's and Jonesred's and Stihl's are better saws. I wanted to buy one of those, but the ol' pocketbook couldn't justify it for what I use a saw for. I cut about 1.5 to 2 cord of wood per year maximum and it is mostly maple tops. I have an old 14" Homelite (back when Homelites were well made) that I use for tree pruning, etc. I picked up a Poulan Pro 260 (18" bar, 42 cc) for a great price, and am anxious to know if anyone else has this saw or a similar saw....or has owned in the past.
Again...I know it is not a premium saw but don't need one. Thanks in advance.

I been having issues with my Sthil 025 and only heat the farm house with wood. Nearly always short of time and firewood. Anyways I bought a model that sound a lot like yours at Sams. I have not used it too much.

But I like the easy to find spark plug, the air filter you wash, and chains and bars cheap at Wally's or the farm store.

I cut down four or five little trees and it's started like a champ. The sthil starts hard, seventeen pulls wouldn't give you a heart attack.

Brian,

I have that same saw. Just finished it's third winter and I am more than pleased. I keep hoping it will break so I can justify a Stihl, but so far it has been very reliable and easy to run. Great saw!!!

All I've ever used is Stihl. I'd recommend them hands down. If you go to a dealer, they typically have some decent sales on homeowner saws.

by recomending a Stihl homeowner saw, you are not getting any better saw than a Poulan Pro.
odd number Stihl saws are cheap saws, even number saws are not bad, not even close to being as good as the old 028,038,041.

I have 2 .031 Stihls,20 inch bars.Owned them for 25-27 years.NEVER had a minutes problem with them other than clutch,bar and chain....Paid 225.00 for one and 250.00 for the other...GO FIGGER...They work year round.Is this what you call a cheap saw? Neither owe me nothing.How many other brands can you say that for?Most CHEAP saws are in scrap pile long before that.Just my opinion....idontno

Poulan Pro is a good saw. I have one of the 16" "throw away" Poulan's that I bought from Wal-Mart for $120.00 5 years ago. still starts and runs well, I wouldn't try to make a livin' with it, (not very rugged, cuts too slow), but works good for occasional chores. The Pro, however is a heavy-duty saw, no stihl, in my opinion, but should suit your purposes.

Don't sell your self short on a Poulan Pro, Poulan Pro is the old Partner saw, and were a very good chain saw. For its size, it is as good as some of the Stihl saws made. Now if it were the greean Poulan, the are cheap throw away saws.

I dont know where your at in NY but if your anywhere close to the north shoe of oneida lake theres a chain saw dealer called House Trucking thats been good for me. those poulans start every time on the 17th pull very reliable. good luck Lou

My wife says she could get hers started if it started on the 17th pull. I bought a Stihl with the recoil starter. Greatest saw I ever owned for starting.

i guess its all in perceived value. if they can make you think a 200.00 saw is as good as a 400.00 saw then theyve won the game. all i know is , they guys i know buy cheep saws every 2-5 years, my 041fb i bought in 1980 is still good , true it was 350.00 back then. but 200.00 every say 2 years is 1000.00 every 10 years.200.00 every 5 years for 10 years is 400.00 .... 200.00 every 3 years is 600.00 every 10 years. ... i would calculate on the 25 year scale that my stihl has been around but ,,hey,,, allright 200.00 every 2 years for 25 years is 2400.00. its all about perceived value. their job is to get your money,,you r job is to keep your money.... lucas

I own a Poulan FarmPro Model 375 That I bought new in 1992 with a 20" Bar. Best saw I ever owned and still use almost daily today. If I could I would buy another one but they don't make em' like that anymore. Guess I'll run it into the ground and then rebuild it!!!. The new chain Saws Just aren't made the same. Just my 2 cents
