2 3 Inch Sanding disc Types

hello
have been thinking about getting some of these small sanding disc but i see there are different types some have a plastic screw and asome have a hole on the back ?? what is the best type ??local autobody store wanted 16 bucks just for the mandrel ,wanted to make sure i get the right one . Want to use it in a 1/4 air drill,mainly want to smooth weld splatter and to smooth edges during fabrication Thanks

You should check out any Industrial supply houses in your area. Around here the industrial supplies are a lot cheaper than the automotive sources for the same products. WWW.3m.com go to "pruducts & services" after you pick a product the next page will have a link labeled "where to buy". Just follow the directions and they'll tell you where you can purchase thier products. $16.00 is too high.

Hi Dave,

I prefer the 3M "Roloc" system with the plastic screw on the back:

The 3M system is flexible in that there are things other than sanding discs that go in the same mandrels. For example, "Scotch-Brite" surface conditioning discs and "Bristle Discs" (which are like a mild wire brush). Everything is available in 2" and 3" (you should have both mandrels - each with the correct size backing pad). They do tend to be a little on the pricey side but they work very well. They can be used in an electric drill but a higher speed pneumatic die grinder works best.
