Wow, I"m impressed!

I was happily slicing up a cylinder head with my 4.5" grinder, going through the wheels at the rather typical rate. Ran out, so I needed some more. Went out and bought some DeWalt wheels, since that"s what the store had.

I immediately bound the wheel when I re-started the cutting, twisting the grinder out of my hand. Figured I"d just broken a brand new wheel with less than a second of use on it. Nope!

The wheel didn"t break! Pull it all out of the engine and examine it closely for fractures. I"ve blown up wheels before, and don"t like it. Nope, no cracks. Fire it up, and it goes just fine.

The wear rate of the wheel is roughly half that of any other wheels I"ve used. Dang, this thing just isn"t wearing down! Not even when I get the wheel jumping a bit, which usually eats the wheel down in nothing flat. No chunking either.

In summary, I"m really impressed by how well the wheels cut, how slowly they wore down, how well they stood up to abuse like flexing and jamming. This is a wheel well work looking for in my opinion.

As many of the cheapie wheels you see around, I've found that you don't save any money skimping. The better wheels seem to cut faster, wear slower, and save a lot of time and aggravation to me. I haven't tried the Dewalt wheels, but I like Walter and Makita wheels, sometimes I can get some of the Norton wheels as well.

Yeah, I like those too. Been through a couple dozen in the past year and never had one blow up. The old air motor cut-off wheels had a tendency to go poof into a cloud of dust and fragments if you got em cocked just a little. Only DeWalt I broke so far was when I dropped the grinder off the bench onto the concrete floor. Once even cut through a 1.25" solid hr steel bar on a contraption I was dismantling and only used up about half the wheel. Those things are best thing for sheetmetal. Rank up there with duct tape, cable ties and ATF.
