My BIL bought a 12v dc winch at harbor freight. He is mounting it to the floor of his shop so he can roll in the occaisonal inoperative vehicle. The instructions call for a 70 amp Fusible link to be put in the line. Where could he find a link that heavy? I thought maybe at an automotive stereo shop where they install those big boom box systems. Does anyone know of a for sure source for one of these links?

Just my opinion but fusible links are stupid engineering. What Buick said would be a nice set up to use.Less trouble too.

I read in (I believe a Hayns automotive manual) that fussable links are 4 sizes down (smaller) than the wire it is to protect. It also stated that it had a bigger (thicker insulation) for protection against melting and shorting out.

Any electrical wholesaler sells 100amp fuse blocks. Get the kind where the fuse holder is also the cover and handle. The fuses are cheap with fast blow type P and slow blow type D of various current ratings. A lower rating fuse could be used to limit max lbs pull for safety.

Most any good auto parts store will have those links. Most Honda's use them as well as most 70 amp alternators.
