I just bought a metal cutting bandsaw from Harbor Freight for home use. It seems like a pretty good saw for the money. My problem is I tried to adjust the blade and have everything screwed up ie-tracking,tension,etc. I'm trying to follow the book (which isn't too good or i'm too dumb) and having poor luck. Is there something i'm missing or particular order to follow? Thanks a lot.

Thanks for you tips. I went to that web site also and found a lot of good info. I was able to get it figured out and seems to cut well now. The only thing is the cut is not perfectly straight. Near the bottom of the cut the blade wandered out about less than 1/8". I must still not have something quite right but am getting closer. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

Your wandering cut may be caused by feeding a little to fast for the hardness of what your cutting. Even my big Kalamazoo saw will do this.
Run your blade guides as close to the cut as possable and slow up a bit.A decent cutting fluid doesn't hurt either. A dull, damaged or incorrect blade will screw up a cut faster than anything.
A common rule of thumb is to have 2 teeth in the cut at the same time.
I had a Harbor Freight bandsaw for a short time until I got the Kalamazoo, then gave it away. My ears still ring every time the guy uses that saw.

I'd think you need to back off the guides by where the cutting takes place (get the guides out of the way), then get the blade on the wheels (make sure the blade's not on backwards) and see if the blade stays on while it runs. If it does you need to bring the guides up to the blade so that they support it where it runs otherwise.

You might be missing a Kalamazoo.

Hello I dont know about that particular saw but I have a Vertical Metal band saw it has 2 adjusting wheels both are on the top wheel one adjust the angle ( to adjust the track ) and the other adjust's the tension. I back off the guides first then adjust the track ( too center the blade in both wheels ) then adjust tension . after i have these set the adjust your guides to the blade, But you still have to be caerfull when backing out of a cut or you can pull the blade off. hope this helps Dave

I'm afraid if you've never successfully set up a band saw, you want to find someone who has.

I have more than a little band saw experience but the HF saw I bought had a mis-machined bracket that held the rear guide bearings such that it was impossible to adjust them correctly. A couple months later they were able to send me a replacement bracket. The only good news in the process was I had a charge account there and could refuse to pay for the saw until they corrected it. I offered to let them pay to ship the saw back but they didn't think much of that.

Not suggesting that you have a defective part, but you don't sound like you'd recognize it if you did. I've since replaced that saw with something considerably larger and faster. Guy who got my HF saw is happy with it.

Good luck.
