Concerning my Poulan chainsaw,I cleaned the air filter, looked into the carburetor, filled the bar oil compartment with bar oil, filled it with fuel, and tried to start it for 45 minutes; yet it would not start! Any other ideas?

On the more recent small two-cycle engines there is a catalitic screen installed where the exhaust system/muffler manifolds onto the block. If the gas/oil mixture has been a little heavy on the oil side this screen will coat with unburned carbon and plug up. I had the same symptoms you describe and when I removed the screen all my problems were solved. Good Luck!

Hey, your problem is either spark or fuel. Do what Rod told you to check the firing. If it is firing, you are probably not getting fuel. Take the spark plug out and pour just a smiggen of gas into the port, put the plug in and the wire back on and try to start it. If it starts and runs just a second or two, your gas supply is plugged up somewhere. First thing to check is the fuel filter. Take a pair of needle-nosed pliers or sometimes you can do it with your finger and reach into the fuel tank. You ought to be able to pull the fuel pick-up line out through the filler port. It should have a fuel filter on the end. Change this filter and try to start it again. If this doesn't work, I usually seek smarter than me help. I don't know anything about the carberators. Maybe someone else will guide you better. Good luck
