A small rant

Lotta moanin' and complainin' going on about the flood of Made in China products on the market today, along with a lot of "Buy American or you're a scumbag" rhetoric. I'm all for American products, made in American factories by American labor, but we all know that sort of thing is pretty much history.

Very few things that the average consumer needs/uses are built entirely in America. At the very least, some components are made overseas. In the 50's, it was "Jap Junk". In the 70's Japanese cars and electronics took this country by storm, and the "junk" threshold moved to Korea. Now, Korea has moved up a rung and it's "Chinese Crap".

In 20 or 30 years, China will move up and Pakistan or Bangladesh or whereever will take over the bottom slot. It's called progress, folks. Ya can't stop it.

I shop for the best balance of quality and price I can afford. When the Chinese steel industry starts getting it's stuff together and producing a well-built and reasonably priced product, I'll be buying it. Doesn't bother me a bit that my Stanley and Husky tools are made in China. They're good tools for the price and they do the job.

It's a Global economy, like it or not. Get with it, or get over it.

It still matters to someone in some part of the US for us to buy American if nobody does they will be out of work.I also dont understand the attitude that these American factory workers made too much money and ruined it for themselves.As far as the new yup bikers :well bkers have been boneheads putting on a clown show since before Evel jumped the Snake River Canyon.I ought to know Ive been observing them for thirty years.{almost like I was one of them.}

I wonder how long it'll be before there are enough hungary Americans that finally decide that they don't really need to make 6 figures a year to live. Maybe then manufacturing costs in the US will drop to a reasonable level and the Chineese companies can start outsouecing and selling products that are "Made in America"

Lotta good talent bein' underutilized in Russia. Unfortunately their work ethic stinks for the most part, so their productivity is suffering. That's the result of 75 years of Soviet rule where you get paid regardless of whether you work or how hard you work or what you do, sorta like what we see happening in this country, but much more so.

I'll just betcha that the "chinese crap" invasion won't last long. even though i agree they will start building better products, they will get smart and greedy and outscource their industry after a few years. it's the way of the world....money. next invasion of 'cheap' products will come from african continent or some third word sewer in central/south america and we will still be complaining about the quality. quality and cheap prices can never go together.

Yep. Heh, heh, heh...

Don't get me started on Harleys. 90% of the $25,000 Harleys I see are on trailers being towed by $50,000 SUV's driven by old fat, bald yuppies with bad ponytails and leather do-rags. I spend a lot of time laughing into my hat during "biker" season around here...

Jealous? Maybe a little. Altho, if I had that kind of money, I wouldn't spend it on those things. I'm fine with the tools I have, got no use for an SUV, too old and stove up to ride a motorcycle, but a $50,000 ton dually diesel 4WD would look mighty fine sitting in my driveway.

And I'll pass completely on the pathetic ponytail and do-rag...
