The wife ended up taking her to the vet ********** wife dont get me started on that she did it while i was at work. Anyways, vet ended up sedating her did x-rays, blood checks etc whole nine yards and whole lot of $$$ said the dog is fine put a stomach tube in her to get her to eat. they keep her mostly sedated now but they say she is starting to eat on her own so first of the week or midweek can pick her up from the vet. I knew she would eat on her own the vet pry didnt help anything pry hurt us and her confidence in us but thats the wife. (i know she had good intentions in doing what she did so i cant chew on her too bad but i really wish she wouldnt have done that). but looks like well have a new "puppy" and she will eat. think the wife needed her head examined more then the dog lol dont tell her i said that.

I could tell you horror stories about vets and their billing practices, My daughter worked for 3 of them and could tell many more.
I know they need to make a living too, but the lying and greed is not necessary, a lot of them just trade on your sympathy.

There ARE good, honest vets around, just real hard to find around here.
Now I love all my critters, but if they get bad sick, they better recover pretty quick, or get replaced.

i have a horror story bought vets you speaking of spending 300 and it passing away. we had a german shepard. was looking real bad real bad ill admit it want eating walking barley moving. took her to the vet they did blood work etc etc. said the dog had cancer 60% liver failure the dog wouldnt make it through the weekend. we took the dog home only becuase they said she wasnt in pain (if she was in pain i would have told them to put her down) said she wasnt in pain so i figured if shes gonna die shes gonna do it at home. sunday night she was looking terrible terrible wife stayed up with her most of the night both came home from work monday afternoon she was eating acting better. was a little over 8 months until she passed. they said she wouldnt make the weekend and have 60 percent liver failure. really makes me wonder about some of these vets and what they actually do if anything.

Glad things are working out. This has been on my mind also. But I am a dog lover big time.If a guy loves an animal, then cost is basically nothing.
Once again glad you took the patience and such to take the dog in and care for it.

Understand the anxiety about the vet bills but like the dr. said, the concern for the animal drove your wife to see the expert. Since the vet decided to tube feed the dog, it must have been in real need.

I ran the family cat over with my car about 10 years ago. Didn"t kill it but really smashed it good in the abdomen. Called the vet"s emergency line and within 5 minutes had 2 vets offering to open up to help (8:00 pm weeknight). Cat went to the hospital, stayed overnight, got x-rays, and next day after looking at the images, we put it down. Had them bury the carcass too. Cost me $300.00.

I offer this as some consolation to you. I could have saved $299.90 and put a .22 to work but after you are finished, you will have a new friend and companion. Probably worth a lot more than my dead cat.

Hey jdman,I think Id be mad about the vet bill also but your wife must have gotten more worried.Shes just tring to help the poor animal I guess.The vet probably knew after some testing that it was severe stress the poor dog was under.Nothing is cheap with vets or doctors.Well it seems the dogs health should be ok now hopefully.Like I said when you first told everone about the dog you are doing a good thing and I admire you and your wife for taking care of the dog.Good luck.
