I've been shopping around for a new 250 amp mig welder. Hobart and Miller seem to be the best deals from companies I have hear of.
Any thoughts on the pros or cons to either one would be greatly apprectiated.
Hoping to find a bargain at the Farm Machinery Show in Louisville this weekend.

alot of it is personal preferances. Depends how much money and fancy you want to get. each welder has its own characteristics. you can weld a piece of steel using 30 amps on one and have to jump up to 35 amps on another welder of the same make based on its age use duty cycle etc. the best thing is to try both of them and go with whatever you local welding shop etc sells. they are owned by the same parent company but dont have interchangable parts(some are but some arent) go with whatever you local company sells and you can get the better deal on. last welder i bought was a lincoln just because thats what the local fleet and barn sold and i could get tips etc cheaper and readily there.

Hobart and Miller are owned by the same company, but their mig welders are different from each other the best place to ask would be the weld talk message board at hobartwelders. com nice people and lots of knowledge. Seems like the consensus over there on 250 amp machines is the MM251 they seem to think the Miller machines are way nicer than the hobart ironman in this class
