Considering the current interest in air compressors, there is another safety warning to consider. Some years ago, I got the bright idea to use PVC pipe for air. It had the pressure ratings, will not rust, low cost, quick to install, all those good things. Fortunately, I asked some questions first. PVC is weakened by oils such as compressor oil. Further, PVC gets more brittle with age and when it is cold. A piece of PVC ten feet long with 125 PSI air in it is the world's longest hand grenade! The CABO building code for houses no longer permits PVC for pressure piping, only for drain, waste and vent (DWV)for which it is fine. There is a company making non-metallic air piping. I chucked their literature when I learned that the piping is at least ten times the cost of other plastics, The joints are made with special heat welding equipment which is also costly. I could continue, but to get to the bottom line, DO NOT USE ANY PLASTIC PIPING FOR COMPRESSED AIR UNLESS THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS IT. Sorry for raising my voice. It would hurt me if you got hurt.

How correct you are! I worked for a major compressor manufacturer and their policy was that if a service person visited a facility that used PVC for air delivery no work was to be done and the employee was to return to the plant after acknowleging to management as to why the equipment was not being serviced. I have also seen the bowls on inline oilers and filters burst after their reacting with synthetic oil.
