I have a sears generator that the generator part isn't working. The person I got it from said that it would work a little and then turn off,but when I got it and started it, it didn't do any thing. Some one took two wires from the the generator before the regulator and put a splice in both of them and brought them out to a splice block. Why would they do that and why is it not working?

Here is a link that details how to easily "Flash" the field. I've done it and know it works.

As has been noted on this board recently, an easy way to flash a 120V AC generator is to start it up, plug in a cord type drill that has a motor with brushes, and turn it on. If it doesn't run, rotate the drill by hand (backward I recall, but not sure) and that will "flash" the generator.

Someone recently did note that they tried it on a generator with no output and it worked.

So they have a place to energize the field with a battery to "flash" it.

Thanks everyone.I wondered if that was what it was all about.I know car alt need it but I didn't think this needed it. So I should be able to put a 9volt to those wires and it will work, but i'll try the drill first.
