OK, cooled down a little. Went to ford puke( when will I learn) front crank seal leaking. After $80 pressure wash BAD front & rear crank seal< trans output shaft seal & high pressure o-ring bad. Sorry this out of warranty. 62K on truck purchased new sept 98. $1700 to fix. sure. buy lotta oil for $1700.

Nother ford puke says around $1000 to fix without looking at it. He tells me there tsp? on this o- ring thing.Talking to same "customer service rep" from below. Dealers set their rates. Customer service rep says she knows nothing about o-ring thing.

Called dealer I bought it from. They too far away to be useful but done with other 2 dealers.

I actually drove a dodge before I purchased this ford in 98. Was not impressed. 1T dodge not even close to 3/4T ford I was replacing. Chevy, no thanks.

may not help you but could others . i had a ford car that keep blowing the valve cover gasket . there was a lot of caked black crud under the cover that i cleaned ofF the best i could . never thought too much about it as the car was serviced regularly by quick lub people .well finally the car lost oil pressure while the wife was driving sad story there .i had the engine pulled by a garage as i didnt want to get into one of the crossways engine hassels. brought engine home oil pump screen completely blocked spun one bearing.... had crank ground ,block bored , new pisons timing chain ,rings and all the other goodies and the head replaced with remanufactured one . i assembled the engine and took it back to the garage for installation . on start up had leak from rear main seal . garage owner/ mechanic said need to pull eng. and replace seal . i said let me think about this a little . a few days later i got to thinking why should oil be comming out when there should be a negative pressure ( partial vacum in the crank case because of the pcv system . pulled hose to valve cover . no suction . pulled hose from throttle body . no suction . found orfice throttle boby completely plugged . cleaned orfice . pcv now working . oil leak cured . THE REAL PROBLEM WAS QUICK LUB PEOPLE DIDNT CHECK THE PCV SYSTEM AND THE OIL FUMES COLLECTED AND CARBONIZED AND BLOCKED TH OIL FLOW IN TO THE OIL PUMP . with the throttle body orfice blocked the crankcase was sealed with no place for the the blow by to go .

If the Ford was the best thing going when you bought it, what happened? Ford never take the front and rear seal out at the same without help. A 6 year old truck has a problem and you are surprised.Try maintance.

Sorry to read of your bad luck with your Ford.

Ours has been good, and even with this setback.

I use it on the farm, and with my const. business. It is the most versatile truck I've owned yet.

Anybody out there thinking about a crewcab vs. the extended cab? I have had both. The CC has been much easier to use.

As for the clutch, well, I reckon it's time. Sure beats buying a new truck every 2 or 3 years and looking at those payments every month.

Good luck gettiing your truck right Joel.

Take Care-

we live in an age of bad products and equally bad service. just look at all the recalls on autos and other products. not enough basic engineering nowadays. everyone wants to take the easy way out and let the computer design their products. it's not necessarily a good thing altogether. that said, it does nothing about your problem and i do sympthize with you because i too have gotten bad produts and service and i don't like it either. i also think it's part of our new "global economy" where parts are made and assembled in some faraway land and no cares about how it's done. hope you get some satisfaction from your problem. i always like to see the common guy get even.

read a few posts down then decide for your self. Better yet, have a conversation with a fomoco "customer" service rep.

tsp?

Technical Service Publication. In other words, a service bulletin.

Might go to alldata.com and see what has been issued on yours.

Ford-diesel.com also should be a great help (can't get it to work, haven't been to the site in awhile, so I don't know if its still online, was a great discussion board and info site.)

Whoa there Joel,
Are you saying you have some motor oil leaks??
I found out this past weekend by talking to a good friend that is a Ford mechanic that we may be putting too much oil in the crankcase when we change the oil. Manual says 15 quarts but apparently there is a bulletin TSB on this from Ford to only put in 14 quarts as it is blowing out the excess oil...causing a nasty looking mess around the bellhousing. Seriously now. Better check it out cause you may save a lot of headaches and money...

thanks for replies.

Kraig, do not know # of TSP. did not think to ask last service rep I talked to at dealer. He was helpful but dealer not one I will darken door of any more. Unfortunately advice in past from same dealer has not been on target.

This one leaks even when dipstick shows 2 qt low. Still have fresh oil on garage floor.
