I'm going to buy new compressor - 50 gal. plus, 220v. I'd like to run air tools (grinder, ratchet, impact, etc.) and air nailers. I'm not rich, but I'll spend up to $600 or $700 for this unit. Any thoughts on various brands? Which to stay away from or best values. Farm & Fleet has a Coleman (?)@ $400. 12.6 cfm @ 90 psi, and 9.7 @ 40. I'm not familiar with it, but it looks pretty solid. What say y'all?

Whatever you do don't buy an Emglo!!!!! I wish I hadn't! Next time I get a spare 1500$ I'm gonna order an I-R out of Northern and sell mine for whatever I can get. I gave around 1700$ for it and have had nothing but trouble w / it. I will say they have stood behind it, but the down time and aggrivation is unacceptable. Mike

Have a Cambell Hausfeld seven horse power with a V/4 pump. It puts out 16.8 cfm at 90 psi. Plenty of air to run the sand blaster and any air tools. Its available with 60 or 80 gallon tank. Its single stage and really works great Can be bought for around $700 to to $850. Have used it for four years and have no complaints.

The Campbell Hausfeld is twice the compressor the Coleman is. The IR is probably the best for the money.

The Coleman (Sanborn) has a habit of wrecking the needle bearings that the crank runs in. Air filter system is junk, and prone to letting debris into the cylinders. Better pump for a small portable 30 gal unit which will not be heavily used.

Campbell Hausfeld will last and last if not undersized for the job it is purchased for. Make sure it is running the correct way when it is wired in, or else the felt breather filter in the dipstick will soak with oil and blow out of the crankcase. You can remove and wash it, but who needs the aggravation.

IR has always been a very good compressor. Running a bit faster than I would like nowadays, but I haven't yet heard of any problems associated with that. IR parts tend to be reasonably priced.

Hi Matt, I just bought a new Ingersoll Rand, 80gal, cast-iron twin, 11.3cfm @135psi for $530 delivered from Northern Tool. I couldn't find it any cheaper. I haven't got it hooked up yet so can't tell you anything more. What sold me was it has a low oil cut-off and auto tank drain.

I just went to the Northern Tool site -- couldn't find that model (or a comparable deal for anything similar). The only similar Ingersoll-Rand only had a 60-gallon tank. Could you provide the Northern Tool Item Number please, this is exactly the compressor/deal I've been looking for. Hope it's still available !!

Hi Matt, John, sorry guys I made a typo error on the spec's. I was looking at a different model than what I have. The one I have is a 60gal, 10.3cfm @ 135psi, cast twin, auto-drain, low oil shut off, Model SS3L3 Stock# 1592027-C152, $529.95 delivered.

I just tried to look that stock number up and it's now not a valid stock number. I just got mine 2 months ago. It was in catalog #152. I also went thru there current stocking compressors and there's not one that is close to the price I paid or the same equipment. I also bought a pressure washer at the same time and it's no longer available. They didn't say it was a sale item so you might want to give them a call as I remember I could not order the compressor off the internet.

T_Bone -- Thanks for providing the detailed specs. Not an 80 gallon tank but still a GREAT deal. I'm gonna take your advice, give 'em a call and see if I can still order one.
