Skunk removal

I have a dirt floor storage area behind a wall next to the work shop area. Last year a ground hog dug his den. He apparently didnt like the noise so moved out, this winter a skunk evidently moved in to the ground hog den. Course he smells up the area when ever there is activity in the work area. How can it get him to move to a better location with out destroying his life???? I hope some of youall have had some experience with this problem(not being mean) but I would like some advice. Do skunks hibernate? Or are they active year round?

I was live-trapping squirrels this summer and got 4 skunks in the process, everybody except me thought it was funniest thing in the world

get mid-sized hava-hart trap with DUAL doors that gravity drop, you DO NOT WANT the spring-locking doors, impossible to release that kind of door by turning upside down and running away

bait trap with peanut butter and place on his path where you can get to all sides of the trap

when you got one, let him calm down, they are nice kinda fellows but don"t like surprises

move real slow, slowly cover trap with old bedsheet or blanket, let him settle down, slowly lift trap a bit and slide piece of cardboard under the trap to cover bottom

once you have this done, let him settle down and you can move him inside the trap very easily, use open pickup for transport

go to local troublemakers backyard or other suitable spot, set bundle down and with long pole, slowly remove sheet and slowly roll trap upside down so doors open, critter will saunter away happy as can be

these are gentle creatures but don"t rile them

Walmart sells skunp p works great for me just pour it on the ground where he goes in and out and try to get some up under the building if you can.

Try putting down dry cement powder where the skunk walks in and out of the hole. It will get on the skunk's paws and irritate it - hopefully enough irritation to make it move and not enough to make it spray. Between that and moth balls, you should be able to move it on.

Well, you got the stinker already - what you got to loose? You can try to trap it with a live trap, or a muskrat trap (scaled down bear trap - jaws about 4" across.) Canned cat food is good bait. We've trapped a bunch that way. Once trapped. Shoot'em between the eyes with a .22. Or, throw a piece of carpet over the trap, and dispose of them a long distance away. Don't bother to relocate them, jest do 'em in! Yes, they do hibernate, but they're light sleepers, and will wake up on warm winter nites and go prowling for a midnight snack. You'll know when this time comes 'cause you'll smell it the next morning. They're still groggy and tend to fire at any provication. Lots of road kills these nights!

i worked on engines at the schoobus garage when they need help and they had a bunch of skunks. one day a lady came running in " theres a skunk on my bus what are you going to do?".. i told her to get another bus cause i aint gettin him out.he finally left by next morning. i put some caustic soda powder in the holes in the ground and it helped some but god sure gave us a good skunk population.so they come back.

Dig a 10 foot hole. Put ashes in bottom of hole. Line top of hole with peas. When shunk comes to take a pea, kick him in the ash hole.
