Hi Mark, I boondock camp 100% for 6mths at a time and been 100% solar in my RV for the past 5yrs. I use two 64w unbreakable Unisolar PV's with a MorningStar charge controller (CC), About $725. Each US64 PV, about $325eh, will putout 15.5v at 4amps full sun and 2amps in cloudy weather or at dusk/dawn. For battery's the Trojan T-105, 6v 105amp/hr batterys (same as golf carts batterys) are the best bang for the buck, about $68eh. I use about 30amp/hrs per day and two 12v 105amp/hr battery's keep up with my usage demand. The 12v battery's won't last as long as the T-105 and will need replaced every two years where the T-105 will typically get 6yrs before replacement. I would suggest no less than four T-105 battery's and 6 would be better. Stay with 12v appliances as much as you can. Some common items tho, it's cheaper to use a invertor with a on/off switch so you can use the invertor with the appliance then turn it off. Invertors suck alot of battery amps. If you careless or don't watch your battery usage then you will need to use more PV's and battery's. For laundry, then a genset with a LP dryer is most cost effective. At the same time you do Laundry, float charge (also called equalizing) your battery's with a 115v charger as this keeps the plates from collecting too much sulfur thus will shorten battery life. Your can also equalize (over charge for a short time) your batterys with your PV's by-passing the CC. I use 10gal LP per week for hot water, cooking, refrigerator and forced air furance. That would be a good figure upto about 400sft for 75� days and 45� nights. Surflo water pumps are the best and will produces 3gpm at 35psi. This is enough water pressure and flow for a shower "without" someone using any other facuet at the same time. Need more water flow then add another pump in parallel. Use a standard bladder tank in the system. For lites, then use 12v flourscent. Here you will need to add a small battery#2 room centraly located in the house. The battery room needs to be vented to the outside and sealed off to the inside of the house. The vent is easy as you top vent thru the roof and bring down a 3" PVC inside that vent to with-in 12" of the floor. Cold air sinks in the 3" PVC supply air pipe and exhaust thru the vent in the roof. No fan required. This stops hydrogen gas build up in the storage room. Your battery#2 room will have heavy gauge wire ran to your main storage battery's to keep it recharged. Your lite amperage demand comes off battery#2 to the lites/Tv/etc in the house. Using the battery room keeps you from having to use extreamely large wires from the main battery storage bank. You can also use a solar water heater instead of LP. See my link below to my simple system that will keep up with house demand for laundry, showers, washing and or aux space heating depnding of storage tank size. I personally would stay away from wind generators as there too noisey day time and night time. T_Bone
