dr, I found the catalog from superior hone.

phone # 1-800-237-2328

part # W-2000

Superior stones last at least 10 times as long as sunnen , it is a 2 stone machine , so the work never touches the mandrels .

Hi , George... Interesting about Superior hone, I have never had any experience with one. I think you will agree with me on one thing... tooling up a honing machine gets expensive!!! I bought a new Sunnen about 6 years ago, with the standard fractionals up to 3/4 inch. Now , I buy odd sizes only as I need them. Most expensive ones to run are the small ones in the 1/16 range, it is easy to use up a hundred dollars worth of stones in an hour....

Davis,

I bought a sunnen machine about 25 years ago at an auction for 100.00 with mandrels 5/8 to 1 in
typical garage set. I did truck and ind engines so I needed larger ones, bought enough to make a
set to 2 inch and sizes above as I needed them.
One of the first mandrels I got was 2 inch in fits
cummins, mack , and cat piston pin bushings.Takes
about 2 hr to do a set for cummins or mack and most of 6 hours to do a 3406 cat , the first set
of stones on that mandrel lasted 10 years and I
think they cost 14.00, I have no idea how many sets
of those bushings I did.
The smallest that I have is just under 1/2 ,and
the biggest is 3 inch.
Below 3/16 superior uses single stone mandrels. You are right , hone tooling is expensive.
