I have a 91 Poulan 375 20" Chain saw that runs great. The Sprocket is worn some and I want to replace it. I have the replacement unit, buit I cannot remove the clutch and old sprocket. Nothing seems rusted. I have tried the old trick of removing the Spark Plug and coiling a rope in the cylinder to "Lock" the engine in place with no luck. I don't want to ruin the saw in the process. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I had tochange the sprocket and clutch on the Poulan saw two summers ago. Bought a tool from Billous and it came right off of there with ease. Installation of the new ones were very easy also. You may try getting the sprocket tool and see if that'll work easier for you.

If you have the cylinder locked with a rope, take a good square staight punch and a fair size hammer, and hit the clutch ears them selves. this should knock it off. Sometimes you might have to hit it 2-3 times to get it to pop loose.

I changed (removed) the sprocket on my McCulloch a few years ago with an impact wrench, hasn't had any problems.

Are you sure you're turning it the right way. I believe it may be left-hand thread.
