I had a similar thing happen, but I wouldn't worry.

I just bought some stuff over the phone and had no problems. I did however try to place the order on the internet, but the part number and prices from the catalog did not match up, so I went to the phone.

They gave me an order number and told me it would be about 10 business days for the order to arrive. After about a week and half I also tried to check my order status online but the computer reply was that it was a bad number...

When the package arrived a few days later I checked the number; it was correct but the computer lookup was not working correctly.

I usually use the local store but they do not stock everything so I've internet ordered a number of times. Very little problem. One time I had a shortage, called, got right through, and they quickly shipped the missing item.
One thing to remember is they are not fast shippers. Figure on a minimum of 2 weeks before you see anything from them. If you need it now, look elsewhere. If you neeed it cheap, HF is the place.

I've done mail orders with them, and internet orders, never had a problem. Seems to me a time or two I couldn't locate the order via their internet site, but the items always came. Never had a problem with them about shipping and such. I have had some items back ordered, for a while, but they would send me an update postcard every month or so, and the item would eventually arrive.

Their retail stores have been a bit more of a hit and miss. Some are well run, others are definately not. Have your sales fliers or web printouts in hand when you to a retail store.

I keep my orders with them to a minimum--their customer "service" is among the worst I"ve ever dealt with. I"ve had much better luck with Northern Tool (formerly Northern Hydraulics) or Enco. I"ve also had particularly good luck with the Cummins travelling tool shows--got to shooting the bull with a couple of their guys at one of the shows and was impressed at the amount of training they go through before they turn "em loose on customers. I"ve also had to return a few items and got no hassles at all--just a "here"s your new one, have a nice day!" The thing is that most of these companies (and you can add Grizzly, Enco, Homier tent shows, etc. ) are all buying and reselling the same stuff from the same (mostly Chinese) suppliers. Prices are within a few dollars, and shipping and service are the differentiators between them.

if you want a real super nightmare try collecting anything from their "lifetime warrenty". when you get a tool from there and you find that piece of paper take it to the bathroom w/you and use it. I'm being serious ive tried a few different tools few different times and trying to get anything out of there "lifetime unconditional warrenty is pointless. i am the biggest supporter of american made products and do support them where possible with that said like welding magnets things of that nature were onsale 99cents harbor frieght made in china 99 cents went to fleet and farm still amde in china but 7.99. while i dont like supporting harbor frieght or china i cannot justify spending 7 dollars more for the same thing. i only go to harbor freight for stuff like that love thier grease zerk selection nice case nice variety metric standard 90's 45's and straights. however even those are made cheap honest. i can put one in every 10 seconds on the pitman arm of the bean head they jsut vibrate apart put a deere zerk in honest they dont break. so even the material quality of their greese zerks suck but love the assortment and generally ok except super super high vibration areas anything esel i refuse harbor freight

I've bought a bunch of tools from them, and I've been very happy with them. I only had a problem with shipping once, and I did what Mark suggested, below, and had no problem.

The tools are actually much better quality than you'd expect, for the price.

When I can't get in, I call the order desk, like I'm ordering something. Then when I get a real person on the line I politely explain that I need to get the info you refer to and they hook me up to the right people right away.

Only ordered from their catalog once. They jerked me around so bad on shipping I invited them to use the item for a suppository and haven't been back.

I bought an air framing nail gun and 2 boxes of nails about 6 months ago, I am still waiting on the other $25 box of nails. I don't think it's coming. The nail gun works great, I've shot around 1000 3.5 inch nails into oak lumber and it is still working. I was a little uneasy about a flea market quality nailer but it was alot better built than I expected. You might try sending them an email about the trouble you're having with them.

The two stores I am familiar with are in the Akron & Canton areas. Near Akron on State Rt. 93 or Manchester Rd. a mile or two south of Interstate 76 on the south side of Akron.

Near Canton at the intersection of Whipple Ave. and Hills & Dales Rd. north of downtown Canton.

Personnel in both stores have been very friendly & helpful. Both stores are in aging strip mall type shopping centers.

They stopped sending me catalogs because I don't order anymore - I wait for their store ads and buy tools for less at the stores than catalog prices.

Did go to a tool sale in a tent downtown today. Most tools were HF quality, but higher priced than HF. I've never bought anything from these traveling tool sales anyway 'cause I know where the HF store is if I have to take something back.

Placed an order last month to HF. Two items came in and two were backordered. I was told at the time of the order only one item would be backordered. I bought items that were not available in the store. The two items that came in were better than the usual HF quality. One was a mill block and clamp set the other was a set of boring bars. I am waiting on a boring head and mill vise. I got a card in the mail a few days ago giving an update that the items were still on backorder. I have bought a few things major items in the store and for the most part they have held up fine for a home shop.
