This is one of the most frustrating tools I own. I load it properly. I oil it. And it repays me by working when it feels like it, maybe every third staple. Is there some trick I just don't get?

Make sure... in reply to Big Bob, 01-25-2005 12:03:29
staples are not up side down. Pointy part is to be facing down.

I've had my share of crappy staple guns... but one thing that sticks out is that you said you oil it. You may be using too much oil. It's just like a firearm - you want enough oil to prevent surface rust, but not so much that it causes jams.

...and I thought I was the only one that hated staple guns?

I bought one of those Black and Decker Powershot models a few years ago (the kind that the staple comes out the "wrong" end) They seem to work fairly well - better than the old Swingline's I'd been using in the past.

Those take some getting used to, but once you are do they are great. I've had one for several years.

Regarding a stapel gun not working properly, throw it away and get a new one. they aren't expensive enough to justify the aggarvation. I work for a phone company where we go through huge amounts of staples evey week. Our guns are never oiled, seldom cleaned, but last for years, with the main problems being dirt, dropping, and finally wear.
