Locking Gas Caps

Anyone know how to remove a locking gas cap that
wont unlock with a key, I have two of them on my
truck and have to get them off before taking
the tanks out to have them cleaned. Any idea will be very appreciated.

Mine will unlock with a flat blade screwdriver.

SOme of those rascals are it seems prone to a little corrosion. Give it a lot of penetrating oil and just work with it.

if your haing the tanks off and cleaned out anyways.i woudl try worst case is taking a pair of channel locks and twisting the cap off worst case i woudl think woudl be the black twists off white part of the cap and then could be broken apart the center chiseled out or what and if you get any pieces of plastic inside shodlnt matter. the cap is plastic filler is steel would think it woudl jsut twist the cap off and bust it up but shoudl twist off

Just squeezing the outer collar with channel locks and turning. Will usually spin the threaded plug underneath.

ummm maybe im overlooking something but i would keep it as simple as possible try lubing up the locks..... ummm w/something known as penetraiting oil if you ahve the correct key should be able to free up the lock. possible thawing out the lock could be water and ice i wouldnt appy heat to it in the form of a torch or even a pocket ligther as there are fumes but some lock thaw or putting it in a heated shop. spray lubricant in the lock after its thawed out work it back and forth alot of spray alot of jiggling and some time w/the right key should get her opened. i have had a lost key on a locking gas cap and you know stant locking gas caps instead of ahving a key made and speading the money to have a locksmith make a key for it which they can take a blank and make a key i just wnet and bought a new cap and key combo and guess what i was going to take the old cap off somehow (i dont quite know how i was going to attack it but its plastic shoudl ahve been able to destroy it somehow) but the key from the new cap fit the old cap seems the keys are jsut like a key for a john deere case etc etc they are slugs if you will. only reason i had a locking gas cap in the first place was it was on the kids car and they had problems at school w/;things getting put in tanks and the school had no cameras in the lot and no security out of the 4 officers they ahd there they didnt have anyone patrol the lot with the 75 dollar parking permit it came w/nothign besides a piece of plastic and the side streets near the school they had permit parking too but thats another rip off and story

Somewhere on an MIT student site the were several pages on lockpicking.It was described as difficult requiring a feel.Sometimes a hacksaw blade can make a pick for a crude lock.

I drilled a lock out with tiny drill bits. It was not on a locking gas cap, but should work on those too.
