Just got old lincoln gas drive...sa-200?

Just traded my '64 Ford F-800 to a buddy and got the welder in trade. Its got the old flathead 4 in it, but cant seem to find any tags anywhere on it. He seems to think its 200 or 400 amp. He also said when trying to weld, it would start an arc and not have enough juice to keep it going. He says theres 2 sets of brushes internal and external. He thinks it might need new ones? Where would I look for the tag? when did they start and stop making these? How much do they weigh?....this thing sure aint light..lol.

Mike, Here's a picture of mine. One thing I thought of when I read your post. When you try striking an arc does the engine speed up? Mine didn't when I first got it. I had to play with the automatic speed control to get it working correctly. It would arc a very weak spark and the engine speed would stay at idle. Once I got it working it welds great. If you were having other problems like bad brushes or windings I don't think you would get any arc. If the speed thing is the problem you can also set it to the run speed manually. My serial number was on the tag with the controls, between the two controls on the bottom of the tag.

i have a 1948...don't know when they changed to this motor but they used a air cooled before this...have nice day may god bless

Yes, very likely is an SA-200 Lincoln. These are commonly known as "Pipeliners" and were very popular with pipeline weldors. In the portable welder world, the Pipeliner is like the Ford 8N in the tractor world--lot's of 'em and rock solid performers. Our company has one and is equipped with a Continental F-163 gas engine. It has a short, straight stack on it with a neat exhaust note--could listen to it all day.

If it is a lincoln May be an SA-200 had a continental engine. you find the brushes on the very back fo the unite there is a tin cover that wraps around the generator by two long screws, under that is the commentator/armeture and brushes if the commentator/armeture is black or tarnished you can get a stone to clean it at the welding shop there are two types a grey and a white one get the soft stone. start engine and hold the stone on commentatot/armeture moveing it back and forth clean all the connections and if it will not weld after that you may have to repolerize it ,has the welder set for a long time?
I do not have my book handy at this time but will be glade to help you later. just give me a beep....jer

Does anyone have any pics of the controls? Mine has been painted over or the stickers are gone. Wheres the serial number on this beast? I found some numbers near the controls "5337 476888" Dont know if this means anything. It needs some TLC, but should be up and running with out too much work. Jerry- Would definetly find it helpful if you could look in your book on fixing the generator portion of it. Thanks for the help so far! -Mike
