Please take a look at the pictures & see if you can identify this unit. It was mounted on a ~40-50 gallon tank, & powered by a 1/4 hp electric motor. It is cast iron. It is shown in the bottom 2 pictures, under the 4 pictures of an unknown motor.

Thanks.

Stumped. But it might be an old Saylor Beall.

Hi Zira, It took forever to download your pictures so could I suggest you using Photopoint.com as it's much faster.

The compresor wasn't designed to pump much pressure as I'm looking at the bearing cap seal arrangement. Looks pretty weak for pumping at any type of serious pressure.

I can't help you in identifying either the engine or the compressor. That engine intrigues me; sorta like a backa**wards version of a Wisconsin. I assume that opening is for a magneto.Have you found this site yet? www.asecc.com - The Antique Small Engine Collector's Club - Somebody there may be able to help with the engine; maybe the compressor, too.

Zira: Very Interesting Pictures. The old compressor looks very much like a Fairbanks-Morris system that I remember as being used to pressurize a water system back in the days before modern electric pressure systems. In this system a horizontal tank held water pumped by a windmill or pump jack on a well and then a stationary gasoline engine ran the compressor to place a small amount of pressure on the system so that water could be forced to the faucets in the house. Does this description sound like what you have?. I suspect that many companies made a similar system but the only one I ever seen was made by Fairbanks-Morris. Maybe this will jog someone elses memory and they can provide more details. I doubt that this system you are describing was intended for an air supply, as it would take that small compressor a long time to fill that large tank with air at sufficient air pressure to be of any use

Hope this helps Tom R
