O.Kay folks Thanks for the advice. I Will install a Transfer Switch with my Generator. The last thing I want to do is get anyone hurt. We had some of the folks around here three weeks ago we had a ice storm and some of the folks up north of us were out of electric for TWO WEEKS! Our area was O.K. the ice here was not as bad. I had coffee the other day with one of the power co. dispatchers and he told me the ice was an inch thick on the lines and trees in the area where the power was off for two weeks.
Thanks
Obie

I don't blame you for not wanting to go through that again.
Check with your local code enforcment officer, and/or your utility to find out what they require.
When I did mine, they didn't require a 3 pole switch, 2 poles was OK, but it had to be UL approved & rated for service-entrance use.
I had to run an additional ground rod and get it inspected too. It wasn't cheap, but my wife can operate it if I'm not home and I don't have to worry that she will forget to open the main.

Be Careful all transfer switches are not created equal as some only switch 2 legs and others switch 3 legs. If you only switch 2 legs you still MAY BE risking someones life or so I'm told. I don't have any proof either way.
