My son just did a horse-trade for a miller bobcat welder (225A, onan engine) that, ah, needs some work. As per our usual arrangement (I get to do all the greasy stuff), I tore into the old beast & found a broken connecting rod, with concomitant crank damage. The question is, how in blazes does one demate the generator rotor from the engine crank? I can see no evidence anywhere of a connection point; it looks like they got a special crank with a 2 foot extension & built the rotor on it. Anybody have experience with one of these?

thanks in advance ldw

Some of them might be like the other post suggests and be joined by a long through bolt completely through the generator shaft and into a coupling on the flywheel. I've got two in the shop torn down now, one Trailblazer and a Legend. On both of them you have to pull the shroud around the end of the generator where it mates to the engine. Then you can look in that narrow space an see I believe it was 4 or 5 bolts down in that hole. if you remove them and then the bolts on the "legs" actually hooking the engine a generator frame together, then it should come apart. Good luck.

would the main shaft on the generator end be hollow with a bolt thru it drawing both shafts together?
