Bought a small pot blaster at Harbor Freight. Can not get it to blast.

The compressor at this point is not the issue as to the amount of air. The blaster will start and then stop.

The sand is dry. Even tried Black Beauty and it does the same thing. Had the comprerssor set at 125 psi. Any ideas?

Hi Charles.. There are Three shut off valves on the tank, One shuts the air off completely.. then there dis another valve at the top of the tank and another one on the bottom of the tank.. I start mine with the valve on the top of the tank wide open.. and the one on the bottom just crack it untill it start to get a little sand..use this to adjust the amount of sand.. then the valve on the top can be adjusted to force a little more sand out.. it will plug up occasionaly and you have to close the upper valve and force all the air into the tank to blow the plug out then re adjust. as mike said the valve on the nozzle is useless as in just a shore time the sand will wear out the ball..better to take it off and save it as a spare they are all the same. you just have to play with the valve settings to get the right sand air mix. If you startt with the bottom valve open you will get a plugged up hose almost imediately..

Carol

Ahhh, I feel like a dummy now. With all three valves wide open, I was wondering why 2 bags of sand only lasted about 5 or 10 minutes. Boy, it took the paint off quick though!.

Thanks for the help. I will try this with the valves. What do you use as a nozzle at the end of the hose? I am reading that you do away with this valve completely. Is this right.

I still have the worn out valve on the end of mine (I didnt find this out till it was to late) Just put in a pipe coupling and forget the valve.... When you want to shut down.. close the bottom valve first then the air input valve..

Do you have the pressure pot type ? I bought one of those cheapies from somewhere and the shutoff at the end of the hose was my biggest problem. I just removed it and run it direct and it works fine now.

Yes, it is a pot type. The small one from Harbor Freight. How do you regulate the amount of sand and air with this valve off? Understand, I am a week end hobbiest and trying to blast a tractor for painting. Thanks.

I remove the shut off at the end by the nozzle. The sand is regulated by a valve at the bottom of the tank. I also had to get some nozzles from a local supplier as those that came with my unit were crap and wore out very quickly. There must be many different grades of ceramic as well. I am planing to buy a nozzle shutoff like Brut uses but never did yet. These just have a rubber block that shuts down over the end stopping the flow when /if needed.

It sounds like some condensation from your air system has pluged the bottom outlet up inside the tank. I believe that you should remove the bottom pipe plug (no air in the tank) open the valve and try to run a rod up into the tank. close the valve and let in a little air to blow out the crudy sand when you open the valve a little ways. Put the plug in and start over. Probably need a water trap in your air line. Do it outside and wear a safety shield to protect your eyes as the process will blow sand all over. Hope I have helped.
