What do you people think of the 12" sliding compond Dewalt mitre saw. I have a 10" Makita compond I may sell to get something a little bigger. Plan on building a barn with rough lumber, is why I want bigger.

Borrow a friends beater saw to build rough frame. Buy that new saw for finsih work and as a favor to your friend loan (for letting you use his beater) him your new saw on his next finish job. That saw if much to nice for barn framing.

Howdy,
I've had a DW 705 (12" non-slider) for more than 10 years... have literally made 10's of thousands of cuts with it!!! Never had a problem with it... bought a DW 708 (12" slider) a couple years ago and like it as well as the 705. I work for a nationwide supplier of woodworking tools & equipment... used to work in sales... did a great deal of research before I bought my tools. DeWalt 708 was rated #1 or #2 in every tool test report I ever read. Two other saws were at the top as well... the Hitachi (10"), and the Makita LS1211. The Hitachi saw doesn't have the depth of cut capability that a 12" saw would, so I eliminated that one... and Makita discontinued the LS1211... I've used the LS1212 (its replacement) and I don't particularly care for it. So I bought the 708 & have had no regrets... GREAT MACHINE!!! Sorry for the long post... HTH

I"ve had a DW708 a couple of years. I have used it only occasionally. I like it fine. I have it installed on a HF roll around stand which is good for the money. I have upgraded the blade to a Makita. A friend who manages a wooden boat company has the Makita at home but bought the Dewalt for the shop.

I've had one for a couple of years. I like it. No problems whatsoever. Bought it at a big box, the first one had a warped table, but it's replacement has been really trouble free. I did have to adjust the stops for tilt, 90 degrees and 45 degrees each way, but I consider this just normal setup with a saw.

I teach tech ed and I have the saw that you mentioned in my shop at school. I was also recently looking through catalogs at equipment. You may want to check out DW' 10 inch slider. Capacities are nearly identical and blades would be cheaper. Quality wise I can not complain at all about the saw.

Funny you should ask. I just got back from buying a DeWalt 10 saw. My old one burned up. Growl,spark,breaker blown,smoke. the old one was not a DeWalt but it gave me good service. I have used DW on jobsites for years with no problems. I have used the saw you speak of in a cabinet shop and was really impressed but, the price tag is a reach for a one job buy.

I have a DeWalt drill and chop saw and like them both. I think they are a quality tool. My friend built his new home using a DeWalt mitre saw and thought it performed great. Thats just my experience.
