The warranty just went out on the wifes Toyota truck and now the radio doesnt work. It seems to be something like a blown fuse, but I cant find it. There is one small fuse box under the steering wheel and another under the hood. I checked all the blade type fuses, everything seems to be OK.

Does anyone know what I could be missing ?

Use your PC, go to Google, and type in www.alldata.com I think that's it. I have not been there for better than a year, but last time I was, for $24.95 you could get a one year subscription for ALL technical information the make and modle of your choice. I am a shop owner and that's one hell af a deal.

Why don't you phone the service manager at your Toyota dealer and ask him?

A GM mechanic does all my Toyota work and he calls the dealer for help regularly.

Before you rip things apart looking for another fuse panel, disconnect the battery for a minute or so and see if that cure"s the problem. All of this stuff is computer controlled, and sometimes computers need a boot in the you know where.

I've found that, in the long run, the cheapest thing I can buy for one of my vehicles is a factory shop manual. Use it once to solve a problem without a trip to the dealer and you paid for it twice over. Electrical is getting so complex that you are just shooting in the dark without good information. I now know my Caddy has a third fuse box in the trunk and a bad fuse back there can kill the ignition! Try finding that one without a map.

Sounds like Hermits on a track. I'd do a Google search on the Tacoma and there should be a forum. Check with those guys. On our Ford Taurus if the door ajar light stays on I have to spray WD40 in a sensor in the driver door latch. I heard this on the Taurus board. Good luck, but check before you rip something out.

Does your radio have a digital readout with a clock displayed? Some of the newer radios have a hot 12 volt wire going to them to keep the clock running when the ignition switch is off. If the radio loses this hot 12 volts, the computer in the radio won't allow the electronics to come on. This hot 12 volts doesn't come straight from the battery but normally runs through some electronic circuits, like the ones that control the dome light turn-off delay. Things aren't as simple as they use to be. A wiring diagram may be the way to go.

What year and model??? My FIL's Camry did the same thing and it was the anti-theft system in the radio that needed to be reprogramed. Any battery problems lately? Jump starts?

Its a 2002 Tacoma, also called a Toyota taco. It just may have an anti-theft system cause it has everything else, even a remote alarm.

My wife says that it has been at least a year sence she has jumpstarted anyone. The truck still has that original battery and it has never needed a jumpstart. No battery problems.

As a radio tech for over 40 years, very seldom does a radio just blow a fuse. If it is blown there usually is a problem that caused the fuse to blow. Some of those Toyotas have a fuse panel on the drivers side and the fuse panels have been known to cause problems in making good connections. But if the fuse is blown, plan on a new radio because a repair will be more than the price of the radio.

Could be an inline fuse behind the radio.Good luck.

sounds like a blown in-line fuse. shouldnt be too overly complicated to pop the radio out and take a look.
