Hi guys,

I just heard this on local TV this morning and had to make a post about it.

A house framer hit himself in the mouth with a air nailgun last week.

He goes to the dentist Saturday with a tooth ache and the Dentist finds a 16d nail thru his upper jaw into his eye scoket next to his nose.

They showed the nail location on a x-ray. How long is a 16d nail? 3" long or so?

How in the world could you not feel a 16d nail shooting up between your teeth and driving into your skull?

Talk about a freak accident!!!

I was acting as ground crew putting up plywood sheets to the roof crew when I heard "lookout below!!". Looked up just in time to see a nail gun come over the edge of the roof. It hit the ground at my feet AND FIRED. I have no idea where that nail went but I sure was blessed that day

Oh, I can see it.

Once I got torn up pretty bad on a bicycle and ended up in the emergency room. Knee wouldn't heal correctly. Eventually, in a fight some months later I got hit in the knee and a large patch of jean popped out.

Went to blow my nose once and couldn't get the booger out. Did a little digital manipulation and it felt really weird. Eventually worked out a splinter about 2" long. Have a witness to this one, my current wife. Got it from work where I'd been sawing wood all day.

Went for nearly a day with a broken arm without knowing it.

So yea, I can see this happening.

I think that the mfg of the nailgun should have had safty stickers in place telling the guy of this type of danger. Pointing gun in direction of head may cause injury. How this could happen still doesn't make sence. Wife must have tried to kill him with his own nailgun while he was asleep.

Just received notification that this was in fact caused by a hammer! The first nail was bent, the cause was a tooth in the way!

Just saw the title and couldn't resist reading. Still laughing but kind of feel sorry for the guy. I guess he's got a decent toothpick holder now. Keep it from jamming into his mouth when he walks into walls.

Well, when was in basic training some decades ago, learning to throw a grenade. Drill Sargeant says, "Once pull the pin and let off grip, get rid of right now. Are supposed to last four seconds before go off, might really one second, might be ten. All depends if grenade was made on a Friday afternoon when the only thing on the maker's mind was going out and partying, or might've been made on Monday morning after maker spent the whole weekend partying and is hung over, SO GET RID OF IT".

Did this happen on a Friday afternoon or Monday morning, maybe? Either way, OUCH!

I heard the same story on the news over a year ago, and the x-ray looked identical. Either it is one of those recirculating urban legends, or they were both trained by the same foreman! :)

Kinda goes to show the skill level of todays framing crews.

..... ...Now, if this happened last night in Embarrass, Mn., where it hit 54 below zero- maybe he wouldn't feel it. Some years ago a friend of mine nailed himself through the foot while on a roof. Co-workers needed a pry bar to get him loose.

Dont know how he could not known it. I saw a guy on a roof, shot himself in the ankle. They had to go up and get him and bring him down. Seems or looked like to me he passed out.

I saw the same story. The guys lucky to be alive. I have been hearing lots of these nail gun attacks lately----They seem more dangerous than a real gun, where's the gun banner crowd when you need them. LOL (I don't have a use for that crowd )

That is pretty amazing. A Darwin candidate maybe. Back when I was in my early 20's before I grew a brain I worked in a Roofing truss plant and pidgeons got to roosting in the lumber sheds. What you do is reach around the front of the gun and hold the safety back and let fly. Got to be pretty good at pidgeon nailing.
