A Walter 6' angle grinder, model 6260 (Big 6?) for $125 at a local pawn shop, new in box. I don't really have a use for it, per se, but my cheapo C.H. Ina company grinder did a great job cutting up an old flag pole and taking paint off the front handrail last summer. I am building my tool collection slowly, and trying to buy quality stuff to replace the cheap stuff I had to buy in a pinch a few years ago when I got a job and needed tools quick. I used a Walter grinder extensively last summer on a contract job and was well pleased with it. I remarked to the full time guy how much I liked it and he said they were about the best you could buy, as long as you could afford it. I figure if they are so good, and expensive, I might at least be able to flip it and make $100 or so. Any opinions?

I thought I'd been around tools a fair amount but Walter is a name I've never encountered. Could be a pain if you need to go to the factory for every part you might eventually need.

Further investigation show that Milwaukee, DeWalt, Porter Cable and the like are near the same price brand new. What got me thinking was that Walter's website has a suggested retail price of $480(!) for this angle grinder. I haven't a clue what makes this worth this much money, though it is a nice machine, but I don't see too many people ponying up that much money for a 6" angle grinder, with those other brands well below $200 for 4 1/2" and 5" models.

It's worth every penny, believe me. I have both Dewalt and Walter, the Walter's are the most comfortable, more powerful, tooless wheel changes.....

Then the one in the pawnshop for $125 might not be a bad deal. What is this the Cadillac of grinders I am not familiar with the brand myself. Was it aimed at body shops?

thier target is metal working shops. Been using them for 16-17 years and they have outlasted every other grinder I've had (Dewalt, Makita, Ryobi). You can buy the 4 1/2" under the Rigid label at Home Depot for 1/2 the price. Yes the Big 6 for $125 is a great deal....I wouldn't resell, I'd keep it.
If you can find them, try Walter HP grinding wheels or Zipcut wheels. They are the best on the market.

Yes, while comparison shopping I saw that Ridgid and wondered if it was a rebadged Walter. Looks like Ridgid are at least doing a good job of rebadging anyway. I just gotta justify buying this one, um, it's for the shop I'm GOING to have, yeah, that's it..

I thought they were German, but it turns out they are made right here in Canada, so parts shouldn't be an issue then.

Whoops, looks like I might have gotten that backwards after viewing the Metabo site. I guess Walter rebadges the Metabo grinders, as does Ridgid. Explains the price though.

The Ridgid is the smaller 8 Amp version. Still a nice machine. I guess that makes the Walter an even better deal then, lol.
