I am about to end the wood stove days for the shop and get an overhead gas heater. I have looked at Modine and others. Any recommendations. I need about 55,000 BTU's. Looking for any feedback that might help.

About two weeks ago the next door neighbor put in a "Hot Dawg" heater. It is LP and has a vent to the outside of the building. This vent has a little power fan so eveything is very nice. It hangs on the wall up in the corner with a T-stat on the far wall. Two car shop all nicely closed in and very comfy. I think his is 35,000 and there are other sizes. Jeffcat

BAD,

I have a Reznor 50kbtu ceiling hung natural gas unit.. heating a 25x25 finished and insulated shop... started it up last winter and kept the thermostat on about 60. never saw it on the gas bill and it was really nice to have warm tools, warm truck, warm floors to work on... now , this is in Alabama..but we had plenty of nites in the low 30s and lower... always pleasant in the shop...sits in the corner up high out of the way and the fan spreads the heat to all parts of the shop... I vote for that !!

later

I have a 45,0000 BTU radiant propane heater from Northern in my 40X30X12' insulated pole building. It works on a thermostat, no electricity reqired. I have been really pleased with it. I use about 100 gallons of propane a year, being in southern Kansas. Much more efficient than forced air, but sometimes not as comfortable, perhaps. Just my .02

I also would vote for the Modine, they have been around for a long time. Another thought, have you looked into the overhead radiant type heaters? I have been in a few shops equipped with those, and they are really nice.
