healing cuts?

My favorite is Cut & Heal. Seen this stuff do mircles on broom tails, dogs and cattle. Even use it on myself and the boys from time to time. What do y'all use?

Pine gum: my dad always kept some around the horse stable. He said it would work better than anything else on a cut that would get wet and dirty, such as on a horse's foot.

He found it useful, but messy, on slivers and such, as well.

Some of the old farmers in our area have discovered WD40 is great for arthritic joints.

Dad always kept a can of turpentine in most areas where a cut would occur. Stung like crazy for a few seconds, then never hurt again. Smear a little bag balm on the cut when you got a chance and there was never infection.
The only body piercing I've ever had usually resulted in a trip to the ER!

If infected a salt water or epson salts bath will help. Some wounds are best left clean and dry. Just a breathable non stick bandage. Applying sticky,oily gooey elixars to fresh wounds just seals the heat in. Mom and Grandma didn't know any better and they hurt alot of people trying to help. Ice and or clean cold water only on burns to stop the tissue from cooking deeper. The cooling also reduces swelling which will kill tissue that otherwise would have lived.

Our neighbor always had a cew of snuff in his mouth. If you showed him you had a cut---yup---splotch! Seemed to work as after that you never told him. lol I now use bag balm for most everything.

Hi All, On Horses....Bacon grease, that is right cook up some bacon, and keep the drippings then put it on the cut till it is heales up. OBTW...NO SCAR!
On everything else, unless it has to be sewn up...leave it alone.

Many time it is just because we don't have needle and thread in the field. And of course leave battle scars (living scars).

So many times, I use a BUTTERFLY bandage. Might leave the tinyest line. Reminder: Don't do that again. Ain't worth it!

I use Corn Huskers lotion. It heals the cuts and softens the caluses. Also works to soften your feet. You can rub it on your feet and get your hands and feet done with one treatment. Double your moneies worth....

I always keep neosporine around. Specially the kind that has a numbing affect. Used to use BFI powder, aint seen that in a while on the shelves. Some reason I think it had a sulphur ingredient. May been the same ingredients in the packages we used in the military.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste claims some pretty good results. What's a diaper rash except hurt skin?
I haven't had a chance to try this stuff yet, but it sounds promising.

Now before you dismiss it, think about it. It's an antibacterial ointment with a topical anesthetic and it promotes healing. What more could you want?

Only disadvantage is you can't drink it like you can the whisky, so you got me there.

Besides, it oughta be good for a laugh or two, and ain't laughter the best medicine?

My Grand-dad..... ...been gone a long time..... ..only had two; coal oil for pretty much anything external.....cuts,scrapes, bruises, sprains, strains, undiagnosed ailments; and castor oil for anything internal. He lived to be 85 and my Grand-mother to 93. Personally, if it doesn't require a doctor's visit, I let nature handle it.

ShepFL,

I use cheap whiskey. Cleans the cut and seems to speed up the healing. Bad part is it burns like H E double hockey sticks for a while!

Sounds like the whiskey works pretty good. Just remember next time to take a little internally before applying externally and it won't hurt nearly as much.... in fact take enough and you'll be feeling no pain at all....

plain ol while vinegar is a great tonic...works good for any kind of mouth sores or insect bites/stings.

I find neosporin to work best on cuts and chapped skin.
