anyone ever tried it and then tore a motor or radiator down and look? fairly new product so i am guessing not. i am still skeptical to dump it in anything of mine. i am not confused and do know what to put in what but cost is VERY compatible (between dex cool and this stuff) ethyl glycol still a bit cheaper but just wondering results anyone has encountered because if it works id buy it instead of dexcool and just wondering results and if i could mix w/green in a pinch.

We had a feature on our local tv news specifically about GM 3.1 and 3.8 engine failures from dex cool. One mech said it was from not flushing and replacing often the othe said the caps should be replaced they let in air. the bottom line I guess was it is not 100,000 mile like they said but should be replace like regular. As far as I know Dex and havoline are the same just differeent brands (like prestone, zerex, etc)

After having to get new intake gaskets in my Luminia Chev, the G.M. dealer ship flushed the system and put in the new gold antifreeze. They said that they have quit using Dex-Cool because of too many problems.

Why do you think a lot of dealers have invested in the backflush system machine. Most tech's will agree that the new deathcool coolant is not worth a D???. I have heard however that the Pink stuff by havoline is much better than the original stuff. This 5 yrs or 100000 thou. miles dont get it. If one continues to use the dex cool, I think you migh fair out better by changing/flushing it every 24 months regardless of the miles. This stuff was a mistake but no one is trying to rectify it. Fact is I think if you google around, you can come up with some class action lawsuits on the problem, same with the bad delco batterys that hit the market. I have not had any dealings with the product of which you speak.

Talk to most any GM tech. and they will agree that it should be called Dex-crap. I am seeing other makes going to it too. I guess they bought into all the hype. I was glad to see that Honda still used the green in Dad's new Pilot.

As previoulsy stated distilled or demineralized water mixed with the antifreze concentrate is vital. Say that and watch 99% of people to look at you like you grew a 2nd head. The other Dexcruel problem is air. A seaping rad cap or a coolant overflow bottle that is very low, will let O2 at the coolant. = a mess.

Those different colors are just dyes. The glycol ether is the same.

Yes, I've seen the crusty stuff it turns to. Didn't have to tear engine down to find it either. You can find it in and around radiator cap or overflow jug. I've aslo seen it turn into orange slime, on a 3 year old car. I would think that it does the same inside cooling system where you can't see as well. All these with "Dexcool", also sold by Havoline. My car presenly has the Dexcool , but will be changed to "green" in a few weeks. I couldn't recommend the Dexcool in anything. I would be skeptical of other brands of extended-life a/f also. The thing that really ticks me off is that GM swears by it, will not recognize that it is crap. Have you had any trouble with the ethylene-glycol in the past ? Don't seem to hear of any myself, if it was like the "orange" a great many 20 -30 year old(and older) cars, tractors, etc. would have had complete teardowns because of it. It's your choice, but keep in mind that the "orange" and "green" anti-freeze can NOT be mixed. Will require a complete flush to change one over too. PS - before I get chewed out, I am not knocking GM,never owned anything else, I'm just knocking their coolant of choice. Thanks for letting me rant!!!

I would never own anything by GM, Will not use their coolant..... People talk about it being safe for animals.. They need to keep the animals put up.....

dex cool isnt a miricle by any means however part of the problem is that at the factory they used distilled dionized water, most people dont add the same back when they refill. dexcool reacts very badly w/minerals in tap water. when flushing dex cool to switch to green aint real good either as dexcool puts/leaves a film on the metal and green doesnt work well and mix too well with that. and to totally flush out every drop of dexcool every drop is very impractical w/o a complete tear down and when you mix green and orange it makes a grown thick goo sludge. if your doing a switch over its imperitive that you get every drop out. if you dont believe me mix a few drops of dexcool w/green and see what kind of mess you have. personally in my pulling tractor, semi diesels especially, i run evans coolant (http://www.evanscooling.com/). rather expensive but have great great great great results. no cavitation no formation of crust crud and cr*p. great stuff but you pay th epress but i have honestly tore motors downafter running evans coolant (all tear downs other then cooling problems) more operator problems as finding somone who treats it as their own is a problme around here most have the "not mine not my pocket book and i dont have to fix it what do i care" attitude and most dont fix it to my likings but thats another topic. anyways thats my take on it

what i mean by tear the motor/radiator down is if anyone has seen if there are any formations or "crusts"(formation of deposits) in the motor. i would be curious to where this stuff rates on the ph scale w/an antifreeze test strip i know at least comparatively dexcool is much more acidic then green wonder where this stuff falls in. ps i just first time seeing it in advanced auto parts so maybe you guys havent seen it yet but it is on prestones website as well but obviously if you havent seen it on the shelves you couldnt have tried it but maybe heard something.

I guess I wil find out here in a few weeks if mixing them works or not. My wife came home the other night with her low coolant light on,'97 lumina with the 3100cc V6 156,000 mi. on it. Little store did not have Dexcool and I wasn't gonna drive 40 miles to town for it. They did have the all makes all model stuff and it does state on the bottle that it will mix with any color antifreeze. If it works fine if not no big loss as we were budgeting for a replacement this summer anyway.
