Longer hose barb?

This old hose has plastic tube water entery, with an old hose barb into the hose in the basement foundation. The old hose barb broke, it had a long neck/ barb that went into the hose.

New fittings I'm finding at the hardware store have a short barb.

Problem: the hose coming out of the wall has a pinhole leak about at the edge of where the new fittings end. The old barb went so deep it never showed up.

Any where I can find a (old style I presume?) long necked hose barb? I can try other options, but I get _very_ little room to work with until I end up chiseling out foundation to make room to do anything, so looking for best first options....

Just love fixing up old stuff, the new stuff is always different..... Sigh.

Agricurtural sprayer supply. Consider putting very warm water on the plastic pipe before trying to insert the barbed fitting so you don,t kink it at the concrete point. NO TORCHES UNLESS YOU HAVE LOTS OF COMMON SENCE. Sounds like you are a very lucky person as you did not mention a leaking valve so you had to work in a mud hole while dealing with the problem. Hi Paul,

Fittings rated for chemicals have longer barbs than ones that are for water. You didn't say what size your working with but I would replace the pinhole leaker as my with luck it can only get worse and flood the basement :)

My guess is the old hose barb was nylon and the one you are getting from the hardware is PVC. Find a well driller or a dedicated plumbing supply store. They should have the old nylon style, which is longer.

Get a heavy-duty BRASS barb adapter.
