I have just puchhased a demo Lincoln square wave 175 TIG welder. It did not come with a owners manual and I have not been able to down load it for the Lincoln Electric Web site. I would like to set wp the welder and try it out this weekend. Can anyone help me with the setup or provide me with a manual.

Hi Bob, I've never used a Lincoln 175, but they all set up about the same way. The torch is hooked to the negitive lead, thus using straight polarity or you may have a polarity switch on the machine and if you do set the switch to straight and hook the torch to the electrode lead.

You may or may not have a gas valve to turn the cover gas on. If you have a valve then theres a switch on the tourch head that turns the valve on/off. If not then hook the gas line to the regulator and set the flow for 10cfh. Argon works best as a cover gas.

Use 2% thorid tungston for all general Tig welding and I like 3/32" diameter the best. Sharpen the tungston 1/4" from the end to a sharp preceise point. Use a #7 ceramic cup.

Just remember, never adjust the amps while welding and have fun.

T Bone, I have a lincoln 175 sqraure wave that came with a foot petal amp control just for the purpose of changing the amps while welding, After using it for awhile I decided I really like that feature, so I bought a hand amp control that clamps to the torch so I can adjust with my thumb as I weld. It is very handy to be able to fine tune the amps as you go.

Hi IH, I heard of those but never had the chance to use one as my welding days are all over. What brand did you get and about what do they cost? I really would have liked to had one when welding SS beer pipe at Coors as them people expected nothing but perfection. Technology is changing everything so fast now that in a few years all I learned will be useless to anyone but me.

hey T Bone,The foot petal came with the lincoln square wave so I dont know what that cost seperately, the hand amp controll is also lincoln and it was about $150. The foot petal is nice for sitting at the workbench, but not practical when you gotta be kneeling or some other position

Hi IR, Thanks I was asking about the hand amp control and thats not too bad of a price. I've used the foot amp controls and there only good for the bench but I like the sound of the hand amp control. another goodie for the shop :)
