When I checked the anti-freeze in my Ford 8 N this
fall, I found motor oil in the radiator. The local mechanic says the block is cracked and I need a new block. Anybody have any experience with this sort of thing? Thanks

A little experience.

A cracked block is probably the worst of the possible causes for mixed gas and oil. A blown headgasket is the best. Unless he pulled the head or can see the crack, I wouldn't assume anything yet. You need to get a mechanic to look at the block with the head off and check it for cracks. Check the head for cracks while you are at it.

The N series engine is a flat head, there's no oil passages in the head. If you had a cracked block you would most likely have coolant in the oil as well. It may not be oil your seeing in the radiator but "Blow by" type gunk that's being pushed through a bad head gasket into the coolant, First thing I would try is a new head gasket.

Hope this helps

Does this engine have an oil cooler on it? Go with the easy and obvious first!!!! Where else does oil and water share a common system? As oil pressure is higher than water it will go into the radiator, however if that is the case you usually will find some water in the oil as the engine sits when it is cold.
